Dicyphus predatory bugs pre-established on tomato plants reduce Nesidiocoris tenuis population growth

چکیده

Abstract Generalist predators are increasingly used in biological pest control for greenhouse crops, as they multiple pests and persist crops even when prey is scarce. However, some of these may cause plant damage due to their omnivorous feeding behaviour. In many European regions, the predator Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae) considered be a serious tomato pest, regardless services it offers, integrated management (IPM) strategies based instead on Macrolophus pygmaeus (Rambur). N. competitively displace M. severe damage, growers often resort pesticide use, disrupting practice. this study, we evaluated competitive interactions three mirid predators, Dicyphus errans Wolff , bolivari Lindberg, cerastii Wagner, with tenuis. The results showed that pre-establishment heterospecific species can successfully suppress greenhouse; population growth was reduced by more than 90% compared plants without competing predators. Further laboratory trials revealed reciprocal intraguild predation between absence extraguild prey. adults predated nymphs, while not found . olfactometer bioassays, females preferred previously exposed heterospecifics but conspecifics, suggesting does avoid competition. These suggest could interesting candidates preventive releases ability effectively growth.

Stage-Related Defense Response Induction in Tomato Plants by Nesidiocoris tenuis

The beneficial effects of direct predation by zoophytophagous biological control agents (BCAs), such as the mirid bug Nesidiocoris tenuis, are well-known. However, the benefits of zoophytophagous BCAs' relation with host plants, via induction of plant defensive responses, have not been investigated until recently. To date, only the females of certain zoophytophagous BCAs have been demonstrated ...

Impact of Feeding on Contaminated Prey on the Life Parameters of Nesidiocoris Tenuis (Hemiptera: Miridae) Adults

Insecticide selectivity to natural enemies is an important concern in integrated pest management programs. Although there is a wide range of information concerning pesticide lethal and sublethal effects on contaminated surfaces, little is known when the route of exposure occurs at a trophic level. This study evaluates this route of pesticide intake on the omnivorous predator Nesidiocoris tenuis...

Population genetic structure and post-LGM expansion of the plant bug Nesidiocoris tenuis (Hemiptera: Miridae) in China

The plant bug, Nesidiocoris tenuis (Hemiptera: Miridae), is one of the most thermophilous dicyphines in agroecosystems and is widely distributed in China. Little is known regarding the genetic structure of N. tenuis and the effect of historical climatic fluctuations on N. tenuis populations. We analyzed partial sequences of three mitochondrial protein-coding genes (COI, ND2 and CytB) and nuclea...

Compatibility of insecticides and fungicides with the zoophytophagous mirid predator Nesidiocoris tenuis

Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae) is an effective predator of multiple pests of vegetable crops, such as thrips, mites, aphids, whiteflies, leafminers. It is mass-reared and released for augmentative biocontrol programs mainly aimed at controlling whiteflies and Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in greenhouses and open field. We evaluated the lethal and subletha...

Tomato Plants

as a diagnostic probe for P. syringae pv. tomato. In a survey of 75 plant-associated bacteria, pTPR1 hybridized exclusively to those strains that produced coronatine. The detection limit for this probe, which was labeled with the Chemiprobe nonradioactive reporter system, was approximately 4 x 103 CFU of lesion bacteria. During the 1989 growing season, a total of 258 leaf and fruit lesions from...
